Jul 04. The United States Patent office has published details of a patent application covering ANAQUA Technologies: METHOD AND SYSTEM FOR EVALUATING INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY (US Publication No. 2004-0122841).
The application states:
One aspect of the present invention includes a computer-implemented method for evaluating intellectual property. One preferred computer-implemented method includes obtaining a plurality of intellectual property (IP) records, preparing an IP data set based on the plurality of IP records, analyzing the IP data set to obtain an at least one IP cluster, and displaying the at least one IP cluster to allow a user to evaluate IP opportunities for the IP data set. IP opportunities include, but are not limited to, licensing, donation, infringement, and competitive intelligence opportunities.
Commenting on the patent application, Mike Whitfield Sales Director said "The patent shows the innovation that was and is being applied by companies wishing to understand how intellectual property can be exploited. One of the key achievements of organisations using ANAQUA, is the bringing together of all information relating to IP, including revenues and risks, to allow true value to be assessed."
Many organisations use simple methods to classify inventions. for example, High Value, Medium Value, Low Value. Using ANAQUA, the actual financial value of a patent can be given to the cent, allowing the use of clustering and other techniques to determine statistically relevant clusters that simpler High/Medium/Low methods can not provide. In this way, companies are empowered to reap maximum value from their investment in IP and use the analysis to contribute to future IP management strategies.
