Earlier this year, WIPR conducted a survey, in association with Bradstock, to delve into the IP service provider industry and try to find out how the dynamics of the sector are changing. Anaqua isn’t the only provider in the IP industry that’s made deals this year—in January, trademark and brand protector Corsearch purchased Pointer Brand Protection, a provider of anti-counterfeiting and brand protection services.
And, it’s been a busy few years of M&A for the industry, resulting in bigger players in a smaller pond. Over the past two years, French IP service provider Questel acquired a majority stake in German provider Brandstock, adding trademark expertise to an established patent and translation offering.CPA Global has acquired the management business of Clarivate Analytics, market insight tool Filing Analytics and patent alert tool Citation Eagle, before agreeing to merge with rival IP management company ipan/Delegate Group.
